Who is Stan?

I regularly ask myself…

So, in my own words: A stubborn optimist, powered by active hope and the wisdom I see in the natural world, hell bent on changing our relationship with each other and our home planet.

I don’t want to and I don’t plan on leaving this life before seeing some change around this place. Another way is possible and I’m here for it.

Close window button is in the corner if you’re content with the ways things are working. It’s all connected and lots of it is designed to be broken.

Where I’m going is:

  • to reform the institutions to deliver what they should, as we’re short on time;

  • to resist the dying forces that are blocking another way, support and empower others to do so;

  • to recreate communities and culture around a deep connection to nature, the more than human world works better than we do;

  • to reimagine how we can and should not just live differently, but thrive differently.

What is Stan doing?

Charging on in a new direction, that is self-directed. Looking for new connections and agency. Being more true to myself and trying to embodying change. See the ‘current’ and ‘emergent’ tab for more on my work.

What was Stan doing?

For the last 3 years I’ve been working within UK government, across a number of climate & environment policy roles, including: circular economy, net zero strategy, green finance and most recently as a climate negotiator to the United Nations

In December 2022 I parted ways with UK government, with an ambition to work a closer to my true-self and what I know to be true to the challenge.

What else was Stan doing?

Learning... my three biggest lessons would be:

  • nature connection - understanding what is at the root of our climate & ecological collapse, a broken relationship with the natural world that has shaped our (western/global north) worldviews as separate to nature.

  • regeneration - embodying the patterns & principles of nature to move beyond the sustainability paradigm.

  • reimagination - not being bound by convention is a choice and our limitations begin with the questions we ask of ourselves. The critical decade we find ourselves in calls for a total reimaging of society: BAU > reform > transform.
